Barcelona are reportedly interested in highly-rated Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, who has been dubbed the new Robert Lewandowski.

Krzysztof Piatek is the newest name to emerge on the radar of Barcelona. The Polish striker has drawn comparisons with Robert Lewandowski after his thunderous start to the 2018-19 Serie A campaign. Barcelona are reportedly interested in the striker, according to Spanish publication Sport, who cite Il Secolo XIX as their source.

Krzysztof Piatek is a name that had not been heard by majority of the football fans around the globe. But, the striker has made everyone sit up and take note of his talent. Joining Genoa from KS Crackovia for a paltry fee of €4 million, hardly anyone would have envisaged the impact he is having for the team right now.

Genoa had struggled to replace Giovanni Simeone. But, Piatek has taken to life in Italy with aplomb, boasting a return of 7 goals in 3 matches so far – a tally that includes a quadruple in Coppa Italia against Lecce. Needless to say, his scoring spree has attracted Barcelona, who are taking a keen look at the 23-year-old.

Barcelona have Luis Suarez as the first-choice striker, with Munir El-Haddadi the only real option that can be deputised from within the first-team setup. In case of injuries to the two, Ernesto Valverde might have to dig into the ‘B’ team or play without a natural predator up top.

The Catalans have been looking to add an able deputy to Luis Suarez, one who can also take over from the Uruguayan in due time. Paco Alcacer failed to make much of an impact and was shipped on loan to Borussia Dortmund. Barcelona will have to delve into the market soon enough, with Luis Suarez not in the best of form as far as finding the back of the net is concerned.

Harry Kane has been reported to be on their wishlist. But, Barcelona will be wary of the heavy demands of Daniel Levy, which might be a large enough barrier for the Catalans to look elsewhere. Piatek though, could emerge as an able option, if he maintains his form till December.

While the player has been likened to compatriot Robert Lewandowski, he is much shorter than the Bayern Munich striker.

Piatek though, has shown the same kind of hunger to succeed in a big league as Lewandowski had shown when he joined a new league, with Borussia Dortmund providing him the opportunity.

The 23-year-old has been called up to the National Team on the back of his excellent start to the 2018-19 campaign with Genoa. Piatek seems to have the hunger to succeed at the highest of levels, something which might pique Barcelona’s interest.

The striker though, will have to focus on maintaining a level throughout the season, proving that he can be consistent as well. A bright future awaits. Barcelona are only the first of names. If he keeps on performing, he might soon see a plethora of top European clubs lining up for his signature.
