Chelsea superstar Alvaro Morata has revealed that he wants to return to former club Real Madrid at some point in his career.
As per a report from Spanish outlet Don Balon, Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has claimed that he dreams of returning to Real Madrid in the future.
The Spanish international joined Chelsea from the reigning European champions for an initial £58 million last year. After a blistering start to life in England, the 25-year old has struggled to make a sustained impact for the Blues.
Morata finished the 2017-18 campaign with 15 goals and 6 assists from 48 appearances across all competitions, managing to score just a single Premier League since the turn of the year.
Morata was heavily linked with a move away from the Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window. There was strong interest from Italian heavyweights AC Milan in the 25-year old, while a move to Italian champions Juventus was also mooted.
The 23-time capped Spain international himself admitted that he considered a return to Italy or Spain, after a difficult maiden campaign in England. However, the centre-forward stayed put at Chelsea, but his struggles in front of goal haven’t eased though, with the Spaniard finding the back of the net just once in five games in the ongoing season.
A graduate of the Real Madrid academy, Morata had left the Merengues for Juventus in 2014, only to make a return to the Spanish capital two years later. After a fruitful 2016-17 term, the 25-year old was on the move again, joining Chelsea.
The Spanish international made 95 appearances for the La Liga giants, across both his spells, scoring 31 goals and setting up 12 more. And he still harbours hopes of making another return to the Santiago Bernabeu at some point in his career.
Morata saw former Madrid teammate Mariano Diaz return to Los Blancos this summer, after having left the club for Olympique Lyon last year. And when quizzed about the possiblity of him rejoining Real recently, the 25-year old said:
“Who would not like it? I am happy at Chelsea but I have many years ahead in my career if God and injuries allow it. Mariano said Madrid never close the door and look what happened.
“You never know. I’m in Chelsea, not in a team that are very inferior. It is clear that Madrid are the best in the world and everyone wants to be there but I’m not envious [of Mariano].”
Morata still has four years left on his contract with the West London outfit. Despite a slow start to the season, the 25-year old has earned a call-up to the Spain national team for the upcoming set of fixtures against England and Croatia.
As far as a return to Real Madrid is concerned, it has happened once, it may happen again for the Spaniard in the future. But in order for that to come to fruition, he will have to step it up in a big way at Chelsea, moving forward.
