Transfer News: Luis Suarez gives green light to Paul Pogba transfer

Former Liverpool superstar Luis Suarez has given his green light to Paul Pogba’s possible move from Manchester United to Barcelona.

As reported by ESPN, Luis Suarez has spoken on the speculation linking Paul Pogba with a possible move away from Manchester United. The former Liverpool superstar has iterated that the Frenchman will be welcome at Barcelona, where he will get a chance to win more trophies.

Pogba has not been a happy camper at Manchester United in recent months. In fact, for much of 2018, rumours of an uneasy relationship with Jose Mourinho have been running rampant, and the player’s poor form at the start of the season has done nothing to end the speculation.

Pogba’s indifferent performances have played a huge role in Manchester United already falling six points adrift of Liverpool after the first four gameweeks. Amid all this, the interest of a couple of European heavyweights has piqued, with Barcelona and Juventus being linked with the 25-year-old.

While Juventus seem to be monitoring Pogba’s situation for now, Barcelona have reportedly been more forthcoming with their interest. In fact, the Blaugrana had even lodged a shock bid for the Frenchman before it was swiftly knocked back by Manchester United.

Now, one of their players, former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has spoken out about the speculation surround the 2018 World Cup winner, claiming that Pogba will “always be welcome” at Camp Nou. The Uruguayan international also aimed a jibe at Liverpool’s bitter rivals by adding that Pogba will stand a better chance of winning titles at Barcelona, than at Manchester United.

“Pogba’s an elite player who’s won everything. He has a lot of quality and he’s one of the references at United. I think he would like to be competing for more than he is at the moment. He’s not a player that belongs to Barca, but he would always be welcome.”

Suarez isn’t the first Barcelona player to speak on the topic of Pogba’s possible transfer to Barcelona, with former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique also echoing the former Liverpool superstar’s views last week.

Such comments will only seek to further unsettle Pogba, who appears to be inching closer to his exit from Old Trafford. Manchester United are expected to put up a strong resistance, although their hand may be forced if Pogba pushes for a move, which could be a possibility if he continues being at odds with Mourinho.

Something will have to give in the transfer saga involving Pogba and Barcelona. Manchester United have until next summer to keep their prized asset content, with the Blaugrana only likely to return for him ahead of the 2019-20 season. For now though, the Red Devils remain on their toes, with the comments from the former Liverpool superstar not helping their case.
