Transfer News: Real Madrid reignite interest in Raheem Sterling

Real Madrid have reignited their interest in Raheem Sterling and are reportedly pondering upon a summer transfer bid for the Manchester City superstar.

Sky Sports are reporting that Real Madrid might launch a late attempt for Raheem Sterling. The Manchester City star has been drawing attention from the European Champions since the start of the summer. And, it seems the giants are set to reignite their interest in the English international.

Raheem Sterling’s career has had quite a remarkable renaissance of sorts. The youngster faced massive backlash for his move to Manchester City. And a couple of seasons into his stint at Etihad, he was beginning to be called a failure. But, the 2017-18 season marked his second rise in English football.

Raheem Sterling ended the campaign with a tally of 23 goals and 17 assists. Reinventing himself under Pep Guardiola, Sterling returned to the top echelons of English football with a brilliant season. And, the interest arrived soon enough, with Real Madrid taking a keen look at the winger.

Real have lost their mega star Cristiano Ronaldo, who chose to join Juventus in the summer. While Gareth Bale has shown early signs of stepping up to fill up the void, the wing area still needs reinforcements. Neymar and Kylian Mbappe were both linked, with PSG in financial trouble.

But, it seems Real Madrid will not be able to land either of the stars, which means the club will have to look towards other options. Florentino Perez has also not been able to sign his designated big-name targets in the current window and would be itching to bag a high-profile player.

Raheem Sterling might just be an approachable target, with the English international being hesitant in agreeing to a new deal at Manchester City. The contract talks broke down in June and there has been no improvement towards it.

Real Madrid might have to shell out a sizeable fee to land Raheem Sterling. But, considering the youngster’s current career curve, it might turn out to be an inspired signing.

The report however, suggests that Real Madrid will scout the player more when England face Spain in September, which means a summer bid is out the window. Still, if Sterling manages to continue his contract standoff till January and Real Madrid might start struggling, the English international might just be due for another big-money move.
