Barcelona are reportedly set to lodge a €50 million bid to sign Adrien Rabiot, who has turned down a renewal offer from PSG.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are set to make their final attempt to secure the services of Adrien Rabiot. The La Liga champions are willing to lodge a €50 million bid for the French international, who is ready to call it quits at PSG.

Barcelona’s attempts to completely overhaul their midfield have become common knowledge. The Catalans have already signed two midfielders in Arthur and Arturo Vidal. But, if widespread reports are to be believed, they are not done just yet.

Instead, Barcelona want to sign a midfielder who will provide the creative impetus. Paul Pogba was seen as a player who could have provided the required solution at Camp Nou, but the Blaugrana have ended their pursuit of the Manchester United superstar, for now.

In Pogba’s stead, his compatriot Adrien Rabiot could end up making his way to Barcelona, who are now ready to submit their final bid for the French international. The La Liga heavyweights are ready to offer €50 million in exchange for the player’s services, which should ideally be a good enough amount to sign him.

Rabiot, who has already enjoyed a stellar club career with PSG despite only being 23, has less than 12 months remaining on his current deal at Parc des Princes. While Les Parisiens are desperate to tie him down to a new long-term contract, the French international has knocked back their renewal offer, making it clear that he wants to leave.

PSG’s fear of losing Rabiot has also been confirmed by manager Thomas Tuchel recently, which will only provide Barcelona further impetus in his pursuit. That the French international is reportedly keen on joining the Blaugrana should give them the advantage during negotiations.

There is certainly no urgency for Barcelona to sign Rabiot, considering Ernesto Valverde is well stacked with options in midfield. But, the Spanish champions want to avoid a scenario wherein the player will be up for grabs for free next summer, which could perhaps work against them, especially considering the transfer window has already shut in England and Italy this summer.

PSG would do well to sell the French international for the amount on offer as well, as that would help them pay off the transfer fee for Filipe Luis, who is a priority target for them. The scales are definitely tipped in favour of Barcelona, and it remains to be seen if their €50 million bid is accepted by their French counterparts.

If Rabiot indeed ends up moving to Camp Nou, it could also signal and end to Barcelona’s pursuit of Pogba, which should leave Manchester United fans elated. It will be interesting to see how the saga develops in the coming days.
