Transfer News: Ruben Loftus-Cheek seeking showdown talks over Chelsea future

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is reportedly looking for a move away from the club and is seeking showdown talks with Maurizio Sarri over his Chelsea future.

The Sun report that Ruben Loftus-Cheek is not satisfied with his current role at Chelsea. The midfielder was not even in the matchday squad in the 3-2 derby win over Arsenal and is looking for showdown talks with Maurizio Sarri in order to request for a loan move away from the club before the transfer window slams shut.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has always been tipped to become one of the myth-breakers at Chelsea; the myth being that the academy players at the club do not manage to ink a regular place for themselves in the first-team setup. Struggling to get regular game time at Chelsea, the midfielder was sent on a season-long loan to Crystal Palace for the 2017-18 season.

The loan deal turned out to be an inspired move for Loftus-Cheek. Not only did he manage 24 appearances in the Premier League for Palace, the midfielder was also one of the players on the plane to Russia to represent England at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. His performance in Russia only enhanced his reputation.

Upon returning from the World Cup campaign, Loftus-Cheek was set to be a regular part of the first-team setup at Chelsea. A substitute appearance in the first Premier League game did provide some hope. But, the arrival of Mateo Kovacic saw Loftus-Cheek being pushed out of the matchday squad for the derby against Arsenal.

Now, Loftus-Cheek is looking to clear the air about his supposed role within the first-team setup under Maurizio Sarri. The midfielder wants regular game time and is willing to go on a loan to a club where he can warrant to be a regular face in the starting eleven.

The 22-year-old is seeking showdown talks with the manager to either provide assurance as to him being in the first-team plans or allow him to move on loan.

Chelsea fans would have also wished for Loftus-Cheek to become a regular feature within the squad.  But, even they would have been surprised at the improvement that Ross Barkley has shown, with the midfielder being chosen by Maurizio Sarri to partner Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, up until now at least.

Chelsea have made everyone aware of their intention to retain Ruben Loftus-Cheek. But, we could see the Englishman move on loan for the season to satiate his need for regular football.
