Fred has opened up on some of the details about his transfer to Manchester United. revealing that he rejected several big offers to join the Red Devils.

Manchester United’s transfer window was not as successful as the club, and Jose Mourinho envisaged. But, they did manage to sign three players, one of those being Fred who signed from Shakhtar Donetsk and as reported by Tribal Football, the Brazilian rejected overtures of Manchester City, PSG and several others to sign for United.

Manchester United’s transfer pursuits of a defender in the last days of the transfer window have been quite well documented. Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward might not be happy men at the moment. But, they did make one big signing in Fred, who cost them a reported £52 million.

Fred was heavily linked with a January move to Manchester City, and the deal was reported to be all but sealed until the transfer was put on hold until the summer. Come the end of the season, the Brazilian linked with the Premier League champions again. But in the end, he ended up joining Manchester United.

The Brazilian has now opened up about his decision to sign for United rather than for cross-city rivals City or PSG for that matter, which was due to the advice of his agent. Former Arsenal midfielder, Gilberto Siva represents Fred and the former World Cup winner advised his client to instead sign for Manchester United.

Fred has also revealed he had several offers on the table and confirmed that he was close to joining Manchester City. But, a conversation with his agent as well as feeling that many around him were much happier about the prospect of joining Machester United swerved his decision towards the Red Devils.

“There were options in England and Europe. Manchester City, PSG, but I chose United. I spoke to my agent Gilberto Silva, who played for Arsenal. He told me that United was a massive club. I spoke to my family and friends.”

“When I said United, I saw their faces. I’m sure that I made the right choice. I want to play in and win the Premier League, the best league in the world. I had a proposal from China too, but I didn’t want to go there because I wanted to join United.”

Manchester City were also reportedly looking for a midfielder and had Fred in their sights, among other targets. Now, the Premier League champions might come to regret not signing the Manchester United midfielder after losing Kevin De Bruyne for several months to a knee injury.

As for Manchester United, it may have been an underwhelming transfer window, but their signing of the Brazilian should make up for their shortcomings in midfield. Mourinho and the fans will be hoping he builds on a strong start to his stint at Old Trafford, and become a key figure at Old Trafford.
