Ola Aina is reportedly set to leave Chelsea on a temporary basis once again, with Serie A club Torino being linked with a move for the 21-year-old
According to a report by The Sun, Ola Aina is poised for a season-long spell away from Stamford Bridge for the second successive year. Serie A outfit Torino are the favourites to land the Chelsea star, with several other clubs also being linked with a possible move.
Aina has been regarded as one of the brightest young prospects at Chelsea for several years now. The player joined the fabled youth setup at the West London club as an 11-year-old before progressing through the ranks and excelling at several levels in the academy.
During his years at the academy the 21-year-old, had impressed his coaches before breaking into the first-team setup at Stamford Bridge in 2016. 2016 was also the year when Aina penned a new four-year contract with Chelsea, making six appearances in the season that followed.
But, as has been the case with just about every aspiring footballer within the Chelsea youth setup, the player was hauled off on his first loan spell last season, joining Hull City on a season-long stint. At the KCOM Stadium, the youngster enjoyed an impressive campaign, making 46 appearances for the Tigers.
Aina also managed to find the back of the net once, in addition to providing three assists, and was one of the most impressive performers for Hull, even as they finished a disappointing 18th at the end of the campaign. Despite being solid for the Championship outfit though, it looks like the curse of the Chelsea youth graduates seems to be striking once again.
The Blues are keen to send Aina off on another loan spell this season, and there is no dearth of interest in him. The likes of PSV Eindhoven and Frosinone are the foreign clubs who want him, while a number of Championship clubs are interested as well. But, Torino look set to land the young defender instead.
Experienced defender Lorenzo De Silvestri is the only right-back in Walter Mazzarri’s squad, meaning Aina could have the chance to feature prominently in the upcoming Italian season. Chelsea too, would hope that the Nigerian international continues his development in similar fashion at the Serie A club as at Hull.
For now, Aina is primed for another loan spell away from Chelsea, with Turin possibly being his next destination.
