Chelsea are prepared to beat rivals in order to sign Serie A superstar Sergei Milinkovic-Savic this summer, who would reportedly favour a switch to Stamford Bridge.
According to Independent, Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Lazio superstar Sergei Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian international has attracted a lot of interest across Europe following an impressive campaign and a big money move could be on the horizon this summer.
Manchester United and Real Madrid were among the clubs to be hugely linked with a move for the 23-year-old for the past few months. But, as per sources close to the player, Milinkovic-Savic apparently fancies a switch to Stamford Bridge with Chelsea equally keen on securing his services.
It is believed that the Blues are keeping close tabs on the Serie A midfielder and thereof, could ideally launch a bid should any rivals make a move.
Milinkovic-Savic was on the verge of moving to Old Trafford earlier this summer but the move didn’t materialize due to the complications in his Lazio contract as well as a mammoth price tag, which was enough to sway off the Red Devils.
Chelsea have been dealt with similar issues as well, which have thus far prevented them from launching any bid as of yet. However, they should be confident of landing the highly-rated midfielder, should any of their top players leave the club this summer.
Even though newly appointed Maurizio Sarri is confident of clutching on to the influential trio of Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard and Willian beyond this summer, the chances of that happening are seemingly bleak.
Willian and Courtois, in particular, are strongly expected to leave the club thanks to keen interest from the Spanish giants in Barcelona and Real Madrid.
A departure of any of these stars, however, will enable Chelsea to go all out for Milinkovic-Savic this summer, who is more than a viable option for the Premier League giants. Head coach Sarri has already indicated that the Blues lack a pinch of quality in midfield and thus, the addition of the Serbian international could make a world of sense.
The Lazio midfielder has built a cunning reputation thanks to his consistent performances in Serie A. In fact, he is regarded as arguably the most complete midfielder in the Italian top flight by many fans and experts alike.
A strong presence in the centre of the pitch, Milinkovic-Savic uses his physical prowess to dominate the opposition. He’s a proactive midfielder who can contribute to both offence and defence. And at the same time, he’s quite efficient with his ball-circulation as well, making him a tailor-made fit for Sarri’s tactical philosophy.
Chelsea have already secured the services of Napoli superstar Jorginho and should Milinkovic-Savic follow suit, the midfield trio of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Milinkovic-Savic is sure to make Chelsea one of the feared teams in European football next season.
However, it’s still doubtful on whether they will manage to secure his services given the aforementioned complexities in his Lazio contract. The aforementioned could potentially sway the interest of Chelsea as well, ultimately forcing them to opt for a much more gettable alternative as we enter the final phase of the ongoing summer transfer window.
