Daniel Adshead is reportedly set to complete his transfer to Manchester United, with a £1 million deal set to be agreed with Rochdale.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are on the brink of completing their fourth transfer of the summer transfer window. Rochdale teenager Daniel Adshead has been linked with many-a clubs recently. But, it seems the Red Devils have won the race to sign the young midfielder in a deal reported to be around the £1 million mark.

At 17, Daniel Adshead is already running headlines in football, at least as far as the English footballing scene is concerned. The Manchester-born youngster was training with the first-team at Rochdale at 14. At 16 years and 17 days, he became the youngest player to start for Rochdale.

While his debut against Bury was a quiet one, Adshead has since managed to add eight more senior appearances to his name, registering his first assist in senior football against the same side in a game Rochdale managed to win 4-0.

A teenage midfielder with brilliant vision, Adshead is already commanding interest from the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and many other English sides. But, Manchester United seemed to have stolen a march on the others, with reports emerging that the player is poised to complete a transfer to join the Red Devils.

The report iterates that Adshead headlined a behind closed doors Under-23 friendly between Rochdale and Manchester United at Carrington. While Manchester United were missing a fair share of regulars who are part of Jose Mourinho’s pre-season tour of the United States, Adshead ran the Red Devils’ youngsters ragged.

The performance is said to have impressed the Manchester United coaches, including the man in charge of overseeing youth recruitment, Nicky Butt. A United source confirmed the same to The Mirror.

The United source said, “Adshead was man of the match and head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch. United had a depleted side because many of their regulars are on tour in America with Jose Mourinho and the first team squad but United’s staff were hugely impressed with everything the lad did.”

The deal is reported to be worth around £1 million apart from the add-ons and performance-based bonuses, which may inflate the overall fee to an extent in the future.

Manchester United have a star-studded youth squad now, thanks to an unrelenting youth recruitment drive from the club. But, majority of the young gems have been promoted to the Under-23 squad, which opens up spots in the Under-18 side.

If Adshead does join, he will either be expected to be part of the Under-18 squad at Manchester United or be, in the likeliest thought, loaned back to Rochdale or out to some other club for first-team exposure.

Born in Manchester, Adshead is an exciting talent and Manchester United would be delighted at beating their rivals in pursuit of the teenage midfielder.
