Transfer News: Liverpool ready to launch a €60 million bid for Julian Brandt

Liverpool could launch a surprise €60 million move for Bayer Leverkusen star Julian Brandt as Jurgen Klopp continues to look for attacking reinforcements.

Liverpool could be looking to launch an astonishing €60 million move for Bayer Leverkusen attacker Julian Brandt according to Calcio Insider. The news of a possible move comes after Jurgen Klopp is still though to be in the market for a high profile attacker to add further quality to his side.

Liverpool aren’t exactly short of attacking talent in their squad, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino sizzling up front as they finished fourth in the Premier League and reached the Champions League final. But Klopp feels an addition in attack is vital to keep the depth of players intact.

The Reds reached the Champions League Final despite selling star player Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in the January window, but haven’t replaced the Brazilian. The reported interest in Brandt could possibly be to finally replace their former star, as the German plays in similar positions to Coutinho.

Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, have no obligation to let go of their star player after Brandt signed a new contract only back in April. The deal was aimed to get rid of a low release clause in his contract, thus ensuring the club are in a position to demand top-dollar for their prized asset.

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to offer €60 million for the German international who was part of the World Cup squad which crashed out at the group stage level. Brandt, however, did impress in Russia despite playing only 20 minutes during Germany’s campaign. Even in that limited amount of time, he took his opportunity and was a shining light in an otherwise abject German set-up.

Leverkusen could be open to offers for Brandt, and if Liverpool or any other clubs match their asking price, there is a feeling a deal could be on the cards. Liverpool, meanwhile have a readymade replacement for Philippe Coutinho in Brandt and will be looking to add him to the squad for the next season.

Liverpool otherwise have been highly active in this transfer window, snapping up Fabinho from Monaco as well as finally welcoming Naby Keita from RB Leipzig, who they signed last season itself, but he spent another year with the German side. But now Klopp is desperately looking at attacking reinforcements after stocking up in midfield.

Brandt had a productive 2017/18 season with Leverkusen, making 34 appearances for the side in the Bundesliga, scoring 9 goals and laying down 5 assists for teammates. His versatility means he can play in any advanced attacking positions behind the strikers as well as in midfield and come to join in attacks.
