Barcelona are set to lose out on one of their desired targets, with reports that Chelsea are set to complete the €30 million capture of Aleksandr Golovin.

Don Balon are speculating another setback for Barcelona in the transfer market. The latest setback that the Catalans are set to endure is in their pursuit of Aleksandr Golovin. The CSKA Moscow star is closing in on a €30 million move to Premier League giants Chelsea.

Barcelona have already been hit in the transfer market. Real Madrid have secured the signature of Alvaro Odriozola – a huge blow to the Catalans, who have been in pursuit of the Real Sociedad star for a while. Their need for reinforcements in midfield and attack though, is paramount.

While several names have popped up on Barcelona’s radar so far, Don Balon suggest Aleksandr Golovin is one of them, despite not being speculated to be a name on the Catalans’ list.

Aleksandr Golovin’s stock had been on the rise for a while. The CSKA Moscow star had been quietly building up a reputation for himself and his playmaking skills in the Russian Premier League.

But, his fiery start to the 2018 FIFA World Cup has caught everyone’s attention. Russia have continued to defy the odds and will now be vying with Croatia for a place in the semi-finals. And Golovin has been one of the talismans in the home nation’s surge in the premier event.

Golovin though, had been tipped for a move to the Premier League, with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all linked with the CSKA Moscow star. Chelsea were thought to be favourites, owing to the club’s links.

And if Don Balon’s report is correct, Chelsea are set to seal a deal to facilitate Aleksandr Golovin’s arrival in the Premier League. The deal is set to be worth around €30 million. The move will be a huge coup for Chelsea, who would be delighted at beating so many rivals to Golovin’s signature.

Barcelona, on the other hand, will be gutted to lose out on Golovin. With the deal reported to be worth around €30 million, Barcelona could have signed a player of Golovin’s calibre with not as much of a pocket pinch, especially in today’s market.
