Arsenal are reportedly showing an interest in Lukas Klostermann, with the Gunners looking to add the RB Leipzig star to their defensive roster.

According to German publication Bild, Arsenal are interested in one of the stars at RB Leipzig. Lukas Klostermann is the name that has emerged as a potential summer target for the Gunners as Unai Emery seeks to beef up his defensive options going into his first season as the Arsenal manager.

Lukas Klostermann is one of the rising stars in Germany. The player’s constant improvement in both skill and stature has been impressive since joining RB Leipzig from fellow German club Vfl Bochum in the summer of 2014. This season has been equally fruitful for the 22-year-old, with the player being a regular for the Bundesliga hotshots as a wide defender, being deployed on either side depending on requirement.

What is most impressive about Klostermann is his versatility. The 22-year-old is comfortable playing any position in defence, which is a brilliant ability, especially for a youngster as it enables the player to earn more playing time. And according to reports, Klostermann is a player that interests Arsenal.

Sven Mislintat’s arrival at Arsenal has seen the Gunners shift their transfer policy and focus more on the Bundesliga in order to strengthen their squad. Mislintat’s influence has been telling, with the club being able to land Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Sokratis, with a deal reportedly close to being done for the Dortmund man. The wide options though, remain questionable within the squad at Arsenal.

Unai Emery has just Hector Bellerin to guard the right side of the defence while the left-back area is a bit more fertile in terms of options, with Nacho Monreal, Sead Kolasinac and a few players from reserves available. Ainsley Maitland-Niles served as Bellerin’s deputy and competitor for the 2017-18 campaign but the youngster thrives in an advanced role and is unlikely to be considered as a right-back by Emery.

Klostermann’s arrival will beef up the entire back four options, with Emery having an option on the bench that can come on and take any one of the defender’s place, thus allowing him to be a bit more flexible with his choices for the bench as well.

The move will depend on RB Leipzig and their willingness to explore a deal that would see them part ways with the 22-year-old youngster. Arsenal though, have zeroed in on Klostermann and are likely to take advantage of any hint that a transfer is a possibility.
