Transfer News: Manchester United set to send Victor Lindelof on loan to make way for Jonny Evans

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to send Victor Lindelof out on loan to make room for Jonny Evans in Jose Mourinho’s squad.

According to a report by The Sun, Jose Mourinho is preparing to make room for the potential return of Jonny Evans to Manchester United in the summer transfer window. The Red Devils are ready to loan out Victor Lindelof, who is attracting interest from a number of English and European clubs.

Lindelof arrived at Old Trafford last summer amid much hype and excitement surrounding his talent following his five-year spell at Benfica. Since the move to Manchester United though, the going has been tough for the player, who has managed to make just 23 starts across all competitions.

While he has shown a lot of promise in several outings, most recently against Arsenal last weekend, the Swedish has also been prone to making errors in clutch situations. The positives moments over the course of the season do give Jose Mourinho hope over Lindelof’s long-term future at Manchester United.

In the short-term though, the Manchester United manager is concerned over his progress, which can be hindered by constantly spending time on the bench rather than on the pitch. With Mourinho eager to maintain stability at the back in the coming season, Lindelof’s predicament could only worsen.

To add to his woes, Manchester United are heavily linked with a summer move for Jonny Evans, who is highly likely to leave West Bromwich Albion for just £3 million, if the Baggies go down to the second division.

Should the Manchester United academy graduate return to Old Trafford, Mourinho will have a gamut of centre-backs at his disposal, which can only mean bad news for Lindelof’s prospects, as the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones seem to be back in the manager’s good books having previously been linked with a summer axe.

As a result, the Manchester United boss is eager to send the Swede out on loan in the summer to secure regular game time. The report suggests that he does not have a dearth of interest in him either, with several English and European clubs looking to sign him on a temporary basis.

From his long-term perspective though, a move within the country could serve him well, as he would garner more experience in English football before returning to Manchester United.

Either way, a loan spell away to any club would bode well for Lindelof as he could potentially get back to playing week in week out. It now remains to be seen which clubs come in for him in the coming months as Manchester United look to sign a centre-back in his stead.
