Arsenal are reportedly looking to bring in Fulham defender Ryan Fredericks – a former Tottenham player – on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.

The days of bargain deals seem to have gone. In the modern era of inflated price tags, seldom do you see a steal of a deal in the transfer market. But, according to The Sun, Arsenal could be staring in the face of one, with the Gunners looking to bring in former Tottenham defender Ryan Fredericks, currently a Fulham player and one who will be available on a free transfer during the summer.

Ryan Fredericks started his career at Tottenham, coming through the academy setup in North London. The defender though, found himself mostly hauled out on season-long loans and after just 4 senior appearances for Spurs, the right-back was offloaded to Bristol City for a negligible fee.

But, after just 5 appearances for Bristol City, the player was snapped up by Fulham within the same transfer window. And, it was at Craven Cottage that the player finally came into his own and has since stamped his authority not just within the setup at Fulham, but also in England as a player to watch out for.

At 25, the player has already amassed 108 appearances for Fulham and more than 150 senior appearances in total throughout his career. Fredericks has missed just two Championship matches this season so far as Fulham aim to earn promotion to the Premier League.

The Fulham defender though, is troubling the club due to his contract situation. His deal is set to expire at the end of the season and the player is holding out on a renewal, perhaps, with the aim of first seeing whether Fulham do manage to make the jump up to the Premier League.

Arsenal’s interest though, could complicate the situation for Fulham. At right-back, Arsene Wenger does not have any natural options beyond Hector Bellerin – a player who could be looking to find an escape route in the summer. Thus, the need for a new right-back is paramount at the Emirates.

And Fredericks could be not just the solution but an absolute steal in the current transfer market. Rest assured, the interest from Arsenal will entice Fredericks and should Fulham not seal a promotion, we could see Arsenal nab the 25-year-old on a free transfer, with other teams yet to register their interest in the right-back.

But, if Fulham do manage to secure Premier League football for the next season, Fredericks should sign a new deal at Craven Cottage, with Fulham likely to offer the status of a starter, something Arsenal might not be able to offer.
