Chelsea are reportedly plotting a £35 million summer bid to land the in-demand Jean Michael Seri from Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea are looking to bring in another midfield reinforcement in the coming summer. The Blues are reportedly plotting a £35 million summer bid for Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, who has been in-demand, with most of the interest coming from the Premier League.

Jean Michael Seri has established himself as more than a one-season wonder after his consistent displays this season as well. While Nice have been unable to replicate their exploits from last campaign, they still stand sixth on the league table and Seri has been one of the pillars upon which the club’s success has been built.

Interest has arrived from several areas, with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City all linked to the 26-year-old midfielder at different junctures in the past year or so.

At Chelsea, the need for addition in the central midfield department does not come as a surprise, despite their recent exploits in the transfer market. Ross Barkley is yet to prove his fitness while Tiemoue Bakayoko has been a disappointment by his own standards.

Danny Drinkwater is supposed to be on his way out come summer, lamenting upon a lack of playing time. Jean Michael Seri’s pursuit does make sense for Chelsea. Seri’s energy, industry and experience will be the perfect match for the never-tiring and tenacious N’Golo Kante within Conte’s setup.

But, an even more assuring fact would be that the player will also be an asset under a potential new manager and new tactics, should Conte depart and the incoming manager incorporate his own style at Stamford Bridge.

Seri should also love the prospect play in a league as competitive and illustrious as the Premier League. But, with the kind of interest Seri has been generating, one stumbling block might just be the lack of European football – more precisely, Champions League football.

Other clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool should be able to offer Champions League football, which could prove to be decisive in Seri’s pursuit.

Chelsea though, are still set to attempt to nab the player from others’ noses and are plotting a £35 million summer bid for the 26-year-old. Another haggling point would be the uncertainty surrounding the managerial position at Chelsea.

The report states that despite Seri being interested in the prospect of joining Chelsea, the player will not decide until the managerial uncertainty is put to an end. Chelsea or not, Jean Michael Seri seems destined for a summer exit.
