Transfer News: Manchester United will not consider selling Paul Pogba amid Manchester City interest

Manchester United will not consider selling Paul Pogba in the summer amid reported interest from Manchester City for the Frenchman.

According to a report by ESPN, Manchester City’s interest in signing Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window is set to be counter by a rejection from Manchester United. The report comes in the wake of Pep Guardiola’s comments that the Frenchman was offered to the Citizens in the January window by Mino Raiola.

Pogba is currently in the middle of his second coming at Manchester United after rejoining the club in the summer of 2015 from Juventus. In his second season since returning to Old Trafford, the player has endured a mixed bag of a campaign, with reports of a rift with Mourinho running rampant over the last two months.

The fact that he has only started five of Manchester United’s last 12 games in all competitions have also piled on the pressure on him, although Pogba seems to be on a return trail after a strong outing against Swansea last weekend. But, with his future uncertain, rumours of a stunning switch to Manchester City have been gathering steam.

Pep Guardiola even made sensational comments ahead of the highly awaited Manchester Derby that Pogba’s agent had offered Manchester City the chance to sign the Manchester United superstar and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who would go on to join Arsenal instead, in the January transfer window.

Manchester City’s interest in Pogba doesn’t really come as a surprise, with the club heavily linked with several midfielders in recent weeks. With David Silva on the wrong side of 30 and Ilkay Gundogan the only other option at Guardiola’s disposal, the need to bolster his creative options is urgent for Guardiola.

Generally speaking, Pogba is a fine option for Manchester City to consider, with the French international regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. Pundits have also argued that he is better suited to Guardiola’s style of play instead of what Jose Mourinho employs at Manchester United.

But, the fact that he is a key player for Manchester United means that it was always going to be difficult for the Premier League champions-elect to swoop him away from Old Trafford, despite uncertainty over his future.

Indeed, Manchester United are not even interested in letting go of Pogba, let alone sell him to one of their fiercest rivals. Instead, it looks like the player is set to fight for his place in Mourinho’s first-team plans to remain a pivotal figure for the club, at least for the near future.
