Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata could find himself involved in another mega money move in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Bayern Munich are considering the possibility of making a move for Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, according to a report from Spanish outlet AS.
Lewandowski is understood to be closing in on a summer exit from the Allianz Arena with a move to European champions Real Madrid being mooted. The Polish international has reportedly held contract negotiations with Los Blancos in a series of meetings last month.
While Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummennige has insisted that he is “100 percent” confident that Lewandowski would remain at the club beyond the 2017-18 campaign, things are not looking very well on that front and as a result, Die Roten are planning for the eventuality that the marksman ends up moving to Real at the end of the season.
With the club drawing a shortlist of strikers that could replace Lewandowski, the report claims that Chelsea star Morata is a prime candidate for the potential vacancy that could be created.
The 25-year old Spaniard joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017 for an initial fee of £58 million, but has struggled to establish himself in England in his debut campaign.
After a blistering start to his spell at the Stamford Bridge when he scored eight goals in his first nine games, Morata hit a lean patch and has, of late, been dropped by manager Antonio Conte from the Chelsea starting XI in favour of Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard.
However, he did manage to end a three-month dry spell with a goal in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Leicester City in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. Till date, the former Real Madrid striker has scored 13 goals in 38 appearances for the West Londoners.
The poor run of form also saw Morata getting dropped from the Spain national team for the recently concluded friendlies against Germany and Argentina.
However, Bayern are not dispelled by Morata’s poor return in front of goal for Chelsea this term and are keen on signing him given his age, the pedigree and the potential he has shown both at Real Madrid and previously at Juventus.
It is believed that the German champions are intent on refreshing their squad over the summer by infusing some young blood into the side to replace some of their ageing stars like Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Arturo Vidal to name a few, and signing Morata from Chelsea could be a step in that direction.
