Barcelona will reportedly be looking to reinforce their frontline come summer, with the club being linked with Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg.
According to Spanish publication Don Balon, Kasper Dolberg is a name that is of particular interest to Barcelona. The Catalan giants and current La Liga table-toppers are seeking another addition to the strikeforce to support Luis Suarez and act as the Uruguayan’s cover. The Ajax striker has emerged as a summer target for Barcelona for the aforementioned reason.
Paco Alcacer seems to have somehow found his footing at Barcelona after a rough start to his career at Nou Camp, upon his transfer from Valencia. But, the 24-year-old has still played just 850 minutes of football this season so far, in all competitions combined – a tally that Alcacer would be disappointed with.
The report entails that Alcacer could look to force his way out of Barcelona by seeking a larger chunk of game time, which would compel the club to look for a new deputy to Luis Suarez. Dolberg could be the perfect replacement for Alcacer. Not only will the young Ajax striker be able to give competition to Suarez, but also take over in due time from the Uruguayan as the first-choice, if all goes well.
Kasper Dolberg is a name that has been catching fire over the last couple of years. The Dane’s return has only been above-average this season, with just 8 goals and 2 assists to his name. But, it only goes to show how highly he is regarded, if these numbers are seen as mediocre, although with good reason.
The 20-year-old had a tally of 23 goals and 8 assists to show for his efforts in the 2016-17 campaign and while this season’s record is not as impressive, his displays are still garnering attention from top clubs. The player has been linked to the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea over the course of the last year or so.
But, it is Barcelona that are now seriously considering the prospect of adding Dolberg to their squad come summer. At 20, Dolberg possesses the youthful exuberance to light up the field while he has showcased his affinity towards Barcelona’s footballing philosophy, when playing for Ajax on the field.
Dolberg would cost less and would not demand as great a chunk of playing time compared to other forwards of a similar or a higher stature in world football. This transfer move could pay huge dividends based on how Dolberg will be able to do after completing his move to Barcelona.
The rumour looks like a deal that could very well happen but also depends on whether Alcacer ends up leaving Barcelona in the summer.
