Real Madrid and Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Mohamed Salah, and are plotting a world record summer move for the Liverpool star.

According to a report by The Sun, Mohamed Salah’s exploits have made him a highly sought-after figure in the transfer market. The Liverpool attacker is courting interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG, all of whom will have to shell out a world record sum in order to land him in the summer transfer window.

Salah has been a revelation since making his return to the Premier League last summer. At Liverpool, the player has scored goals at will, broken records for fun and has quickly become a fan favourite. His record speaks for himself too, with 36 goals and 12 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.

Those 36 goals mean Salah has found the back of the net more times than every other Liverpool player in his debut season. The Egyptian is also well on course to enjoy the most prolific season in Premier League history. As a result, it is not surprising to see that the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona are making a beeline for him.

The Spanish and European champions struggled to look the part in the first half of season, with the problems at the back being complemented by a profligate attack. While there has been an upturn in form since the turn of the year, there’s a feeling that Cristiano Ronaldo needs more support in the Real Madrid attack.

With Gareth Bale rumoured to be on the exit trail at the Bernabeu, Salah can be a like-for-like replacement upfront for Real Madrid. But, Los Blancos now face stiff competition from Barcelona in pursuit of the Liverpool superstar.

Liverpool though, are unlikely to be happy about the La Liga leaders taking a keen interest in him, with Barcelona already taking Philippe Coutinho away to Camp Nou. The interest from the Blaugrana comes as a bit of a surprise as well, with Antoine Griezmann reportedly their top priority up until now.

If Griezmann does join Barcelona, Ernesto Valverde will have a stacked attack at his disposal, with Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele his other options. Nevertheless, Salah would be a fantastic addition to the first-team squad at Camp Nou, and La Liga, should he make his way to Real Madrid instead.

But, it is likely to take a world record £200 million bid from Real Madrid and Barcelona to stand any chance of prising Salah away from Liverpool. And while Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to be eager to lose the services of the 25-year-old, owners FSG could be tempted to cash in, like they did with Coutinho.

PSG are in the hunt for Salah as well, but his astronomical fee could see them back out as Financial Fair Play complications could arise. Meanwhile, Salah hasn’t given any indication that he is open to a move away from Anfield, which might help Liverpool thwart Real Madrid and Barcelona.

It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid, Barcelona or even PSG can do anything to secure Salah’s services in the summer. One thing is certain, though – Mohamed Salah has the world at his feet and his meteoric rise will only bring forth interest from several other clubs.
