Former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise has hinted that prodigious Englishman Marcus Rashford might have to leave Manchester United in search of regular game time.

Marcus Rashford’s rise has truly been meteoric. A shock inclusion by Louis van Gaal in their tie against FC Midtjylland, the Englishman scored a double to announce himself to the world and has never looked back since. But, according to former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise, he could have to leave Manchester United in order to secure first-team football.

There were early suggestions of Marcus Rashford being one of the casualties of Jose Mourinho’s appointment as the manager at Manchester United. But, not only did Rashford excel under the former Chelsea manager but also became a player with one of the most Premier League minutes within the team under the Portuguese.

But, the arrival of Romelu Lukaku had already seen Rashford starting to be used as more of a rotation option and the signing of Alexis Sanchez in January seems to have pushed the academy graduate further down the pecking order, not good for the confidence of a young player.

The fall in the pecking order is visible to all, with Rashford being seldom named in the starting eleven and when he is a part of the starting lineup, he is deployed out wide and not in his natural position as a striker, which has shown its affect on the confidence of the player in front of goal.

Despite all of that, many could argue that Rashford’s statistics this season make for quite good reading, with the player featuring as many as 38 times for Manchester United in all competitions so far this campaign, with 10 goals to his name.

But, former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise is one of the many people that are suggesting that Rashford might have to call time on his Manchester United career in order to secure first-team football in his preferred position and continue his improvement.

“At some stage if he doesn’t get regular football that will be something of a consideration for him further down the line, There are some quality players that they have brought in. There is Lukaku that he has got to try and get himself in front of – I am not sure he will.”

“Although Lukaku has not been performing fantastically well. Sanchez is another one that Mourinho has brought in. It’s about where they are going to fit Rashford in and what position. At times he has mostly played wide and that is not really his main position but I think he will accept that position because he wants to play.”

Wise also iterated that Rashford has to take the chances that come his way but if he continues to be rotated and played out of position, he should think of moving on from Manchester United, a prospect that will not be too endearing for the fans or the player himself.
