David De Gea insists he is happy at Manchester United amid Real Madrid interest

David De Gea has addressed speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid, insisting that he is happy at Manchester United.

As reported by The Sun, David De Gea has revealed in an interview that he is content at Manchester United, hinting that he is not looking for a move away from Old Trafford. Real Madrid have, thus, been handed a huge blow in pursuit of the Spaniard, with reports suggesting that they are set to launch another move for him in the summer.

De Gea have evolved into a true goalkeeping extraordinaire during his seven-year stint at Manchester United. Upon his arrival, he was seen as a liability owing mainly to his lanky frame, but the Spain international is now considered to be among the best goalkeepers in world football at the present moment.

He has been in his elements this season as well, keeping a league high 15 clean sheets and conceding the least number of goals in the Premier League this season. But, his superlative performances have seen him court interest from Real Madrid, who have been in his pursuit for nearly three years now.

Keylor Navas hasn’t managed to perform at a high level consistently since the spectacular 2015-16 campaign. With Kiko Casilla not deemed good enough to be the first-choice at Real Madrid, Florentino Perez has been in desperate search of a goalkeeper, despite Zinedine Zidane putting his faith in Navas.

So, after eyeing Kepa Arrizabalaga for a long time, the Real Madrid president has turned his attention back to his favourite target for recent times – De Gea. Manchester United, though, are unwilling to let go of the Spain international for obvious reasons, and will look to price Los Blancos out of a possible deal.

De Gea, himself, does not appear to be too keen on a move away from Old Trafford, as he confirmed that he is happy and content at Manchester United, handing a major blow to Real Madrid in his pursuit.

“Time flies by so quickly. I’ve been here seven years and I am happy. A lot has happened to me – some very good, some not so good, – but to be honest I am just really happy. I don’t think it’s ever good to discuss the future or what may happen. Only the present, feeling well, playing well and helping United is important.”

Manchester United, on their part, are also trying to tie De Gea down to a new deal, and with the player’s public admission of being content with life at the club, it looks like a renewal could be announced soon. As far as Real Madrid are concerned, they have a uphill battle on their hands in their bid to bring the Spaniard back to the Spanish capital.
