Real Madrid join Chelsea in pursuit of Maurizio Sarri

Real Madrid have reportedly joined the chase for Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri, who is also a target for Chelsea.

According to Italian publication Il Mattino, Chelsea could face competition in chase for Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri as they seek a replacement for the under-fire Antonio Conte. Real Madrid have entered the race for the Italian and are looking to bring the man in to replace Zinedine Zidane after what has been a disastrous season so far.

Maurizio Sarri has gained plaudits for Napoli’s breathtaking and out-and-out attacking style, which is a breath of fresh air, not just in Serie A but in Europe as well. That the club is also leading the Serie A table is more of an achievement, given Juventus and their domestic dominance over the years.

But, as is always the case, the good football being produced by Sarri and his Napoli side has brought forth interest from all corners, with Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG interested in the Italian.

Chelsea already have an Italian spearheading their campaign in Antonio Conte. But, while the former Juventus man had a largely successful season in his debut campaign in England with Chelsea, signs of frustration and dissent are starting to show after what has been an underwhelming season so far for the Blues, both in terms of results and transfer dealings.

This has brought forward suggestions of Conte being on the chopping block come the end of the season, with Luis Enrique touted to be the favourite to take over the job. But, after recent reports that Chelsea can land Maurizio Sarri for just £7 million if they want to, the Napoli manager is a viable target for the job, having already been one of the prime candidates for it since January.

But, Real Madrid’s entry could complicate things for Chelsea. However, it is hardly a startling update. Zinedine Zidane has failed to improve things this season after a disastrous start to their campaign. Real Madrid now sit 19 points behind Barcelona, with the title already virtually out of qiuestion.

And suggestions are, if Zidane is unable to bag the Champions League trophy, he could be given his marching orders. Sarri has already shown his ability to produce exhilarating football matched by results as well, which is the ultimate goal for any top club.

Also, Sarri seems to be enjoying a purple patch in his managerial career and Real Madrid might look to take advantage of it by bringing him in during the period of the patch.

Both the offers might tempt Sarri. On one hand, he has the prospect of arriving in the illustrious Premier League while on the other, he is likely to have the offer of managing one of the most successful sides in the history of football.

Both Chelsea and Real Madrid, though, have their own caveats surrounding the job. At Chelsea, the managerial merry-go-round might be something that instils some reluctance in managers to take a keen interest while at Real Madrid, it is often the same case combined with the added pressure of trying to dislodge Barcelona’s supremacy from the domestic titles.

For a man who has proven his tactics and an eye-appeasing brand of football, he is yet to get his hands on a trophy, which could motivate him to swap clubs. Sarri is a manager who seems to have found a new hunger for success and it is this newfound hunger that could possibly see him leave Napoli for either the illustrious Premier League or the dynamic La Liga.

Chelsea, Real Madrid or Napoli – Whatever be his choice, there is a sense of feeling that greatness awaits the Italian tactician in his managerial career.
