Manchester United have finally signed 15-year-old Coventry City youngster Charlie McCann, who has confirmed the move through his social media accounts.
According to Manchester Evening News – a news also confirmed by the player’s social media handles – Manchester United have signed Coventry City youngster Charlie McCann. The 15-year-old joins the Premier League giants from the League Two outfit for an undisclosed fee.
Interestingly, Manchester United had agreed to sign the player back in September. But, the deal has been confirmed finally by the player in January at the turn of the year, with McCann showing his delight at earning a chance to join his boyhood club Manchester United – a club that seems to be close to his heart.
In fact, with Coventry since the age of seven, there was a general air of acceptance that the player will only leave the club for Manchester United.
McCann changed the display picture of his Twitter account to show him in the United complex penning a contract while uploading the same picture on his Instagram account as well.
The caption read,“Happy to sign for Manchester United, a new chapter begins.”

The news was also confirmed by the official website of Coventry City, which also contained quotes from the academy manager Richard Stevens.
“When a big football club come knocking, and it is the club that Charlie supports, you must let him go and have that experience. We did not want to sell him, we did not need a fee for him even though there was a fee involved. He has been unbelievable for us, even making his England debut back in August. Charlie goes with complete support from me and the rest of the staff from the Academy.”
As evident from the quotes, Charlie McCann arrives at United as a highly-rated prospect. The player has already made his debut for the England Under-16 side as well, in a 2-0 win over Uruguay.
McCann will likely slot into the Under-18 side at Manchester United under the watchful eyes of Kieran McKenna. The 15-year-old will join the likes of other prodigious young talent already at the club.
Manchester United have been recruiting heavily at the lower age level, the latest being Aliou Traore, who has already agreed his first professional contract just a month into his career at United.
The 15-year-old will hope to build a good rapport for his potential at United and put the right foot forward at a club that seems to be very dear to his heart.
