Manchester United have reportedly made an offer of £25 million plus Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, a Manchester City target.
According to The Guardian, Manchester United are aiming to pull off an amazing hijack of one of Manchester City’s prime targets. The Red Devils have reportedly submitted a late offer of £25 million to Arsenal for their talisman Alexis Sanchez, with the club also offering the services of Henrikh Mkhitaryan as well, in a cash plus player deal.
Alexis Sanchez’s arrival at Arsenal was greeted with much enthusiasm. And the Barcelona forward has delivered as well during his three-and-a-half years at the club, with a record of 80 goals and 46 assists in just 165 appearances – an amazing contribution per game of over 0.75.
But, with the player’s contract up for expiry in the summer, there have been talks of him reuniting with former manager Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Arsenal have been looking to get Sanchez to commit to a new deal but the Chilean seems intent on joining Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s need for a forward has also accentuated following the injury to Gabriel Jesus, with the manager not ruling out a move for Alexis Sanchez in January. There are enough reports claiming that the 29-year-old is well on his way to Etihad, something that was hinted at by Kevin De Bruyne as well after a 2-1 win over Bristol City in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals.

But, Manchester United could ruin City’s pursuit for Sanchez. The Red Devils are also looking to add some flair and vigour in attack, with Romelu Lukaku cooling off to an extent after a hot start at the club. Also, the right wing is an area that needs reinforcement and Sanchez’s arrival could see Mourinho kill two birds with one stone.
According to the report, Manchester United have lodged in a sensational offer for Alexis Sanchez. The Red Devils have offered £25 million along with a replacement in the form of Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a cash-plus-player deal. Indeed, Mkhitaryan’s career has been on a downward spiral this season, with the player unable to even make the bench in recent times.
One point of contention in the entire offer could be Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s wages, which are reported to be around £200,000 per-week at Manchester United. Hence, the entire pursuit might just come down to the Armenian’s negotiations with Arsenal over the wages he is willing to accept.
In comparison, Manchester City’s bid is reported to be around £20 million but they seem to have the advantage of having the Pep Guardiola connection, along with reports that Alexis Sanchez has already agreed personal terms with the blue half of Manchester.
United though, look confident of doing a deal, mainly due to the fact that they are offering Arsenal a readymade replacement in the form of Henrikh Mkhitaryan along with a higher fee. Arsene Wenger reiterated his stance of not selling Alexis Sanchez in January.
But, if the manager were to choose one, he would ideally go for one which sees him do away with the task of finding a replacement in the transfer market. This could be a deal that Manchester United are able to nick from Manchester City. Manchester United and Arsenal fans might just be about to see a revisit to the Robin Van Persie transfer saga.
