Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly interested in Borussia Monchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard, with both sides looking to reinforce their backline.

According to TransferMarketWeb, Arsenal and Tottenham are among a trio of clubs interested in Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Jannik Vestergaard. The Gladbach defender is on the radar of the two North London clubs as well as Inter Milan, who are all eyeing defensive additions to their respective squads.

Jannik Vestergaard arrived in Germany from Brondby IF in 2010. But, the player soon established himself at Hoffenheim, playing a total of 82 senior matches for the club before moving to Werder Bremen in January, 2015. Arsenal have recently signed Konstantinos Mavropanos. But, the Greek defender is set to be loaned out, which still has Arsene Wenger searching for another addition to his options at centre-back. Shkodran Mustafi has also been linked with an exit and with Laurent Koscielny flattering to deceive of late, Vestergaard will be a viable addition to the squad at Emirates.

Tottenham, too, seem to be short of options at the back. Also, with Toby Alderweireld’s contract yet to be extended amid reports linking him to an exit, Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to add Vestergaard to his squad.

Vestergaard himself could be enticed by the prospect of moving to either Arsenal or Tottenham. The towering Dane will be due a handsome rise in wages while also having the probability of playing for a club of Arsenal or Tottenham’s stature.

The 25-year-old is contracted to Gladbach till 2021 and will warrant a sizeable transfer fee in order to facilitate a move. January could well be a tough time to convince the club to part ways with their key player.
