Liverpool have reportedly handed a trial to Dutch prodigy Rick Jonkers, who currently plies his trade for Under-14 side at De Graafschap.

According to Dutch publication De Gelderlander, Liverpool are looking to recruit prodigious young custodian Rick Jonkers. The Reds have offered to take the 13-year-old on trial in what will come as a huge blow to De Graafschap, with the player currently a part of their Under-14 side.

Despite being a part of the Under-14s at De Graafschap, the player is reportedly already under trial at fellow Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. Rhedenaar or as he is more commonly known, Rick, was watched by a Liverpool scout recently and he seems to have made quite an impression.

The 13-year-old, who previously played for EDS in Ellecom, has now been invited to England by the Reds and the prodigious Dutch goalkeeper is set to travel to England for a chance to train with Liverpool.

The trial would be a great opportunity for the youngster to explore the possibility of perhaps joining a club like Liverpool, an iconic club in world football with state-of-the-art training facilities to help the growth of budding youngsters.

It is worth noting that Liverpool are currently barred from recruiting youngsters from their own region after a disappointing episode involving the club and their poaching of a youth product from Stoke City. And with the ban forcing their hand, Liverpool have shifted their focus to youth recruitment from abroad.

In the goalkeeping department itself, Fortuna Sittard’s teenage captain Perr Schuurs had a trial with the Under-18s at Liverpool and it looks like the 13-year-old will be the next to try out for the Reds, albeit at a lower age level.

De Graafschap would be gutted to see another goalkeeping prodigy leave their youth setup, especially after Ettenaar Harm Dieker switched allegiances to Ajax in the summer of 2016 while players like Steven Theunissen and Milan Beumer opted to join PSV’s youth side.

PSV would hope Jonkers becomes the next De Graafschap youth product to join their ranks. But, it may all depend on the success of his trial spell at Liverpool, which the Reds too, would hope goes well.
