Transfer Rumour: Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal tracking Gorka Guruzeta

Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are among a host of clubs interested in and have sent scouts to monitor Athletic Bilbao youngster Gorka Guruzeta.

According to The Sun, Athletic Bilbao youngster Gorka Guruzeta is attracting several Premier League giants. The report entails that at least Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are all interested in the player and have sent scouts in order to monitor the player’s performances.

Gorka Guruzeta is one of the better up-and-coming players present within the current Bilbao setup. The 21-year-old has been a part of the reserve side for a while and is widely tipped to become a first-team player soon. However, his contract situation may be the reason Bilbao are hesitant in handing the youngster his senior debut.

Guruzeta’s deal is set to expire at the end of the 2017-18 season and there has been no indication from the player that reassures the Basque side of his will to negotiate and extend his current Bilbao contract. Perhaps this is why, despite 6 goals in 14 appearances for the reserve side, he is yet to get a look in.

And the interest of Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal might complicate the situation further. Guruzeta will be free to negotiate with the aforementioned suitors and even agree a pre-contract as soon as the January transfer window opens, an additional cause for worry.

With the Premier League trio interested in the player, they seem to have also received the perfect opportunity to scout the Guruzeta’s potential as he arrived in England along with his reserve side to face Manchester United Under-23s in the Premier League International Cup.

There were reports that the trio will send scouts to monitor the player and while it is uncertain as to whether they were present in the stands, clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal would be elated with his performance, with the youngster scoring the only goal for Bilbao in a 2-1 defeat.

Guruzeta could become a rotation player for any of the aforementioned clubs, with all three of them looking for reinforcements in the said area. Chelsea have been linked with Mauro Icardi, while Arsenal and Tottenham have been looking at targets as well.

Athletic Bilbao are not due to make too much of a loss but the loss of personnel, especially one who could soon become a first-team player at the club, is one they will attempt to avoid. Right now, all signs point towards the player leaving the club come the end of the season.

However, we can never rule out a change of heart from Guruzeta, as has often happened with younger players from time to time. Athletic fans would hope for the same.
