Transfer News: Manchester United keen on Atletico Madrid sensation Saul Niguez

Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking at the possibility of securing a deal to bring Atletico Madrid sensation Saul Niguez over to Manchester United.

According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho is preparing to hurt Atletico Madrid both ways as far as player turnover is concerned. The Portuguese is not prepared to let Ander Herrera leave for Spain and is on the other hand, looking at the possibility of landing Saul Niguez.

But, the manager may have to wait until the summer in order to get his desired target to Old Trafford. Saul signed an unprecedented nine-year contract with Los Rojiblancos in the summer of 2017 containing a release clause worth a whopping £134 million.

While United would try to negotiate a lower fee, Saul himself is thought to be interested in the prospect of joining United, albeit in the summer of 2018. Saul’s interest could aid United’s attempt to negotiate a lower fee, which could be a determining factor in United delaying Saul’s pursuit till the summer.

Saul Niguez has become a vital cog in Diego Simeone’s plans, evidenced by the player racking up a total of 164 appearances for the club in the span of around four seasons, the fourth being the present one, where he has played in each of the 11 league appearances.

There seems to be some kind of unrest brewing at Atletico Madrid, with Diego Simeone’s men struggling to put the ball into the net and gather points on the board in La Liga.

United also need attacking reinforcements to aid their renaissance into a feared club. Their need has been highlighted by the lack of zing in the United attack in the absence of Paul Pogba. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has also dropped off the pace after his early blitz this season.

Saul has often been hailed for his creativity and ability to come up with sensational goals in big matches, a quality that Mourinho would love to have available in abundance in the squad.

While the report does entail that Saul is interested in the prospect of joining United in the following summer transfer window, it would be interesting to see how Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid and the club faithfuls react in case he does come open about wanting a move away, especially after being rewarded with a nine-year deal.
