Ronald Koeman is reportedly targeting a January move for West Ham striker Andy Carroll, which could see the former Liverpool man move back to Merseyside.

According to a report by The Sun, Ronald Koeman is keen on completing a £20 million move for Andy Carroll in January. If the move goes through, it could see Carroll return to Merseyside after having spent a considerable amount of time playing for Liverpool.

Andy Carroll joined West Ham from Liverpool back in 2012, after having spent 18 months at Anfield. Carroll’s time at Liverpool was a complete disaster, but he has done a lot better for himself after joining West Ham. Although he did battle a host of injury blows during his time with West Ham, he also hit 30 goals in 114 games for the Hammers.

The striker has about 18 months left on his £110,000-a-week deal with West Ham, meaning the club could be willing to sell for the right amount in January. Everton are clearly in dire need of a top striker. Despite signing players like Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Gylfi Sigurdsson, they are struggling in Romelu Lukaku’s absence.

The club’s failure to land a front man after selling Lukaku to Manchester United has only accentuated their problems upfront. In fact, a lot of people are attributing their failures on field to their lack of power in attack. However, the rumour does seem a bit odd when one considers Carroll’s infamous injury issues.

Carroll’s injury history is well-documented, and he hasn’t hit double figures in goals in the Premier League since the 2010/11 campaign. However, Koeman is known for bringing the best out of a lot of players, having enjoyed great success with Graziano Pelle at both Feyenoord and Southampton.

As far his skills go, Carroll fits Everton’s requirements. His addition to the squad would enable Koeman to play with another option, should he need to change tactics when things aren’t going their way.  Thus, the interest does make sense but signing the striker would undoubtedly be accompanied by risk.

However, considering the gravity of the situation, this could be one risk worth taking for the Merseyside outfit.
