Official: Marco Asensio extends Real Madrid contract till 2023

Spanish forward Marco Asensio has agreed an extension on his current contract with Real Madrid till 2023, the club announced on Friday.

Real Madrid have made an official statement to announce that they have reached an agreement with Marco Asensio to extend his current contract with the club. The extension will see the Spanish starlet remain at Santiago Bernabeu till June 30, 2023, with a release clause reportedly worth €500 million.

Asensio is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young prospects in Europe at the present moment, having already established himself as a key figure in a star-studded first-team setup at Real Madrid.

Having joined Real Madrid in 2014 though, the player had to embark on two loan spells, first to boyhood club Mallorca and then with Espanyol in 2015-16, before he finally managed to enjoy a breakthrough campaign at the Bernabeu.

Last season, Asensio scored the first and last goals for Los Blancos, finding the back of the net eight more times while also providing 4 assists in 38 appearances. The 21-year-old though, has gone on to stamp his authority at Real Madrid so far this season, scoring four goals in 10 appearances.

On top of that, the player has already won all but one major trophy at the club level at such an early stage of his career. His exploits haven’t gone unnoticed either, with a host of top European clubs making a beeline for his signature.

In fact, the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and even Barcelona reportedly attempted to sign the Spain international in the recently closed window, without much success in the process.

Now, Asensio has gone on to pledge is long-term future to the club by signing an extension on his current deal till June 30, 2023, thereby becoming the latest player this month to be tied down to a new contract by Real Madrid, after Marcelo, Isco, Dani Carvajal, Karim Benzema, Raphael Varane and Marcos Llorente.

By locking down Asensio to his new deal, Real Madrid have secured the long-term future of a player who is being primed to win the Ballon d’Or in the not-too-distant future. The club’s fanbase, often divided in their opinions on a player, too, will likely be thrilled at the news of the 21-year-old pledging his future at the Bernabeu.
