Arsenal will likely welcome Mesut Ozil back into the matchday squad as Arsene Wenger prepares his side for the visit of Tony Pulis and his West Brom side.

Arsenal have slowly managed to gain some momentum. A battling 0-0 draw was met with some appreciation across all platforms and it was followed by a narrow win to progress in the Carabao Cup. And as West Brom get ready to pay the Gunners a visit on Monday night, Arsene Wenger’s side is likely to be strengthened by the return of Mesut Ozil.

The German missed the Chelsea game due to injury. But, the Arsenal manager has iterated in his pre-match conference that Ozil has returned to training, a hint that he may be involved in some capacity on Monday. Wenger also provided an update on Danny Welbeck.

“He [Ozil] is in training and will come back with the team training today or tomorrow. Danny Welbeck has a groin injury. He will be back, his target is Watford. That means after the international break. He won’t be available for England and not for us before the break.”

The manager also provided updates on the likes of Calum Chambers, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott.

“Theo we will check today, we don’t think it is much. I don’t think there will be any problem, he [Wilshere] came off the pitch very well. Calum Chambers came off [against Doncaster] and will now be out until after the international break. He has a little recurrence of his hip problem.”

Wenger had played a mildly rotated squad during the midweek. The likes of Petr Cech, Nacho Monreal, Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny, Hector Bellerin, Granit Xhaka and Alexandre Lacazette were all rested for the Carabao Cup fixture and a large proportion of the rested players, if not all, are expected to regain their place in the starting eleven.

Although the performances of Jack Wilshere, Rob Holding and Per Mertesacker may give Wenger something to think about for the Monday tie, especially as the UEFA Europa League await them on Thursday.
