Transfer News: Atletico Madrid finally lodge £54 million bid for Diego Costa

The long Chelsea-Costa rigmarole may finally come to an end as Atletico Madrid make a £54million bid for the Spanish striker

As reported by The Sun, Atletico Madrid have put in a £54 million bid for Diego Costa, despite the club’s transfer ban until January.

Costa, who scored 58 goals for Chelsea since joining the Blues in 2014 for a fee of £32m, had a massive fall out with Antonio Conte after the Chelsea boss reportedly informed him via text message that he had no future at the club. Understandably, the 28-year old lived up to his rebel reputation and told Conte off.

The spat between the two has been publicly discussed ever since, and although many of the Chelsea faithful thought all will be fine between Costa and Conte in a matter of time, it has only gone from bad to worse. The striker did not join the squad for any of their pre-season games, making his intentions of leaving the club crystal clear.

It appears that Chelsea have moved on (as they signed Alvaro Morata), and come to terms with the fact that Costa will no longer play for them as they did not name him in their Champions League squad for the season.

Costa, who spent 8 seasons at Atletico Madrid before joining Chelsea, has been trying to push a transfer for himself to his former club where he will reunite with Diego Simeone.

In truth, a top class international striker is all that Atletico Madrid lack. There has never been a doubt over Simeone’s team’s will, determination and effort on the pitch, but goal-scoring is a major cause of concern for the los colchoneros (quite evident from their previous two games as they drew both 0-0), and Costa could well eradicate that deficiency.

Moreover, should Atletico retain Antoine Griezmann in January, Simeone will boast a world-class attacking duo in Griezmann and Costa. However, as per reports, Costa’s signing is set to pave way for Griezmann’s move to Manchester United.

With Chelsea no longer including Costa in their plans and Atletico Madrid looking to snap up their former striker, it is only a matter of time before Costa ends up at Wanda Metropolitano.
