Transfer News: Manchester City set to launch €80 million bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Manchester City are reportedly ready to make a late offer to land Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report by French outlet Le 10 Sport, Manchester City are set to lodge a late bid to secure the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the transfer window slams shut. The Citizens are ready to put up an offer worth a staggering €80 million for the Borussia Dortmund striker.

Aubameyang has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world over the last two years, having been a prolific powerhouse in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund. 2016-17, in particular, was a highly productive season for the Gabonese striker.

Aubameyang was the top scorer in the German top flight last season with 31 goals, while also managing to breach the 40-goal mark in all competitions. With his stock constantly on the rise, the player has attracted interest from some of the best clubs in Europe.

The 28-year-old, himself, has expressed his desire to leave Dortmund to take his career to the next level as well. The late interest in him comes from Manchester City and Real Madrid, with the former set to table a formal offer to secure the services of Aubameyang.

Pep Guardiola has a wealth of attacking options at his disposal, with Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus being his two choices for the role of a striker. The Spaniard has even used Raheem Sterling upfront this season. Therefore, the move for Aubameyang does come as a surprise.

Nevertheless, the Gabonese can add a lot of firepower to his squad and help City mount a challenge for both the Premier League and Champions League titles this season. However, the Citizens face some stiff competition for Aubameyang in the form of Real Madrid.

At the Bernabeu, fans have started clamouring for Real Madrid to sell Karim Benzema who has experienced a dramatic slump in the last one year. Even if the Frenchman stays, Los Blancos could make an attempt to sign another striker, with Zinedine Zidane publicly stating that he intends on adding a striker to his squad this summer.

Thus, Aubameyang has emerged as a viable target, with the player previously confessing his dream to play for Real Madrid. City, though, are ready to launch the offensive for the player, with Guardiola keen on adding him to his squad before the transfer window slams shut.

The report suggests that a bid worth €80 million is set to be put on the table for Dortmund. It now remains to be seen if the Bundesliga heavyweights accept the offer at such a late juncture in the transfer window, with very little time left for them to land a replacement.
