Wantaway Chelsea striker is reportedly set to seal his departure from Chelsea and complete a £30 million move to Atletico Madrid

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Diego Costa is nearing his exit from Chelsea. The Blues are set to reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid for the wantaway Spain striker in a deal that would see Los Rojiblancos shell out £30 million to secure his services before the transfer window slams shut.

Costa joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2014 after leading the club to a shock La Liga title and a Champions League final run. Having established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in the world during his time in the Spanish capital, he has only gone from strength to strength in London.

His spell at Stamford Bridge, though, has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride, complete with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Last season, Costa shepherded Chelsea’s early season Premier League title challenge, scoring several match winning goals in many-a-close contest.

In all, the 28-year-old found the back of the net 20 times, although his behaviour off the field left much to be desired. In particular, a training ground bust-up in January with Antonio Conte practically spelled the end of Costa’s time in Chelsea.

His fate was officially sealed when the player made a public announcement to confirm that the Chelsea boss had informed him that he had no future at the club. Things have since spiralled out of control for the player, who is yet to find a new club with mere days left for the transfer window to slam shut.

Costa has been adamant that he will only leave Chelsea to make a return to Atletico Madrid, and Los Rojiblancos have now taken steps to secure his services. They are yet to find a club to loan him till the winter transfer window opens, but appear set to seal a £30 million deal for the player.

And even though Chelsea have been bargaining hard to secure a larger fee, they appear destined to agree on the aforementioned figure. Meanwhile, Everton are keen on loaning the player, with Ronald Koeman exploring the option.

He currently has Sandro Ramirez as his first choice to be the focal point of attack, with Wayne Rooney another option at his disposal. But, the Everton boss is keen on adding another striker to his squad as he gets set to take command on four fronts this season.

It now remains to be seen if Atletico take the decision to send Costa on loan to Everton, if they agree on a deal with Chelsea, before having the Spain international as another option for Diego Simeone in the second half of the season in addition to Fernando Torres, Kevin Gameiro, Luciano Vietto and Antonie Griezmann.
