Transfer News: Manchester City beat Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to land Aminu Mohammed

Manchester City have reportedly beaten the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to land Ghanaian prodigy Aminu Mohammed.

According to The Sun, Manchester City have added another gem to their academy setup – a real coup considering the fact that they have beaten Real Madrid and Bayern Munich among others. Ghanaian whizkid Aminu Mohammed has joined the club from WAFA Academy, who have been paid £2 million as compensation.

Aminu Mohammed is a 16-year-old wing prodigy who emerged from his country’s famous WAFA Academy. The youngster caught the eyes of several top clubs while playing in a youth event in Qatar – an event where he was representing Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg.

Incidentally, the Austrian giants are in a partnership with the WAFA Academy. But, it is Manchester City who have managed to secure the services of the 16-year-old. The youngster impressed during a two-week trial at Etihad and the Citizens have obliged by signing him up.

It is reported that Bayern Munich and Real Madrid – champions of Germany and Spain respectively – were also interested in the 16-year-old, who has snubbed interest from the two to join City. The player is now set to be loaned out to a European club to gain some first-team experience.

The Under-17 international is set to represent Ghana in the Under-17 World Cup in India later this year and City scouts will be sure to keep a keen eye on the youngster’s progress.

£2 million is quite a hefty compensation fee for a 16-year-old and it sure is a testament to the level of potential Manchester City see in Aminu or the talent he possesses. Manchester City’s academy have been receiving commendations from all over the world.

However, recently, there has been a downshift of involvement of academy players in the first-team setup at City. Kelechi Iheanacho has been shipped out to Leicester; Tosin Adarabioyo has not got much of a look-in yet this season while Jadon Sancho – arguably the bet talent to emerge from the setup – is well on his way out of the club.

With Sancho on his way out, it has become imperative to prove again why City’s academy is now considered one of the best in the world now. And the Citizens would be hoping the likes of Phil Foden, Ibrahim Diaz and now Aminu can prove just that.
