Transfer Rumour: Chelsea linked with a shock move for Leicester superstar Jamie Vardy

Last season’s Premier League Champions Chelsea are looking to snag Leicester City’s ace striker Jamie Vardy before the transfer window slams shut next Thursday

As reported by The Telegraph, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia is preparing to make three signings in the twilight of the transfer window, and Antonio Conte has been assured he will be backed in the Blues’ surge to strengthen their squad.

While Chelsea have already had an overhaul this summer, the club believes further reinforcements must be made in order to defend their title this season.

With Diego Costa making his way back to Atletico Madrid, replacing the motormouth Spaniard with a bonafide striker is Granavskaia’s top priority. And who could possibly do a better job in the Premier League than Jamie Vardy?

Reportedly, Lille are interested in making a £36m bid for Michy Batshuayi, and the Blues will use that cash to land Vardy at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have already spent big money this summer on a striker in the form of Alvaro Morata, whose exploits in Spain and Italy have been impressive.

However, the Spaniard is still young and how long it takes for him to adapt to the English game is anyone’s guess. On the other hand, Vardy is a proven success in the Premier league, scoring 37 goals in his previous two seasons.

Vardy transformed from being a shooter in a dark to a professional sniper two years ago, as the Englishman fired Leicester City to the Premier League title in 2015/16.

Ever since, he has been on the radar of top English clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

While the other deals never came close to fruition last season, the 30-year old rejected  the Gunners even though they managed to trigger his release clause.

Chelsea will be well aware that snapping up Vardy’s signature will be a real bargain, because Leicester will probably be unable to negotiate too much considering the player’s age.

On top of that, Vardy will add further pace to Conte’s side, playing alongside the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro. The Italian manager will then have the option of going with Morata’s strong hold-up play, as well as stretching the game with Jamie Vardy upfront.

The Foxes were successful in retaining his services last season, but as the Blues come calling again, Vardy might be tempted into making a move.
