Transfer News: Chelsea ready to table £50 million deal to sign Danny Rose from Tottenham Hotspur

Chelsea are reportedly set to offer a £50 million deal to sign Danny Rose, and are expected to make an official move after their Sunday clash against the Spurs

According to a report by The Sun, Chelsea will make a £50 million offer for Danny Rose, after playing Tottenham in their Sunday clash at Wembley. Although the Blues made Rose their leading left-back target for months now, Spurs were holding out for big money. Now, £50 million seem to be quite a tidy sum that will pique their interest.

Signing a quality left-back has been top-priority for Antonio Conte for most of the summer – a need that will be further accentuated after the defence faltered miserably in the pre-season matches, as well as the opening game against Burnley. Conte will hope that the offer is good enough to lure Rose to Stamford Bridge.

Danny Rose spent his youth career playing for Leeds United and also played for Sunderland on loan from the Spurs. He is often touted as one of the most improved players at Tottenham.

His talent has always been evident and he was pretty impressive even at Sunderland. Once he returned to Spurs, he quickly cemented himself as a first-team regular.

Rose has managed to blossom into one of the best left-backs in the Premier League under the watchful eye of Pochettino. He was having an excellent season before a nasty injury in January, which restricted him to 18 Premier League appearances. He also proved his ability in going forward with two goals and created a total of 26 chances.

Tottenham do have an able back-up in Ben Davies, who may not be as incisive in an attacking sense but will be able to fill in for Rose as far as defence is concerned – thus leaving a window of opportunity for Conte. Rose has also been linked with Manchester United, but with a £50 million bid, Chelsea will appear to have an upper hand.

The pursuit of Danny Rose is likely to put an end to Chelsea’s desire to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus. It will be interesting to see how Rose fares in a club with a seemingly weak defence, if he does join the defending champions. Additionally, Rose can also provide ample competition for Marcos Alonso at left wing-back.
