Borussia Dortmund are reportedly targeting a move for Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud to replace Chelsea-bound Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
According to a report by The Mirror, Borussia Dortmund are considering a move to sign Olivier Giroud from Arsenal in a bid to replace Chelsea-bound Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The same report goes to state that Giroud’s arrival at Dortmund could largely depend on whether or not Aubameyang departs for Chelsea.
Giroud has been unhappy at Arsenal for a while now and has been pretty vocal about wanting to leave this summer due to a lack of regular playing time. The Frenchman is aware of the fact that he does not have too many good seasons left at the top level with Arsenal since he has started to slow down.
Arsene Wenger has been understandably disappointed with Giroud’s lack of impact in front of goal for the Gunners, and went ahead and signed Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon this summer as a replacement. That deal will definitely limit Giroud’s chances and a move to Dortmund seems rather likely.
Although Giroud has no real weaknesses, he does tend to get a little frustrated when things aren’t going to plan, which often works against him. A lack of pace combined with his positional awareness not being the best are two things that he will have to work on if he joins Dortmund.
Meanwhile, Aubameyang is a forward whose career chart progressed a lot after joining Borussia Dortmund. The player joined AC Milan as a youngster and spent many seasons away on loan spells before finally joining AS Saint-Etienne following which he was snapped up by Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2013.
Chelsea will be hoping to bust out quite some money to bring Aubameyang over to Stamford Bridge, with Antonio Conte determined to get a stronger and better quality striker.
The Bundesliga top scorer for the 2016/17 season is likely to be a good deal for Chelsea and act as a worthy replacement for Diego Costa, especially with Costa not in the traveling contingent for the pre-season tour making it seem almost certain that he is sure to depart the club this summer.
For Aubameyang, this would give him the opportunity to test his mettle in the most competitive league in the world and act as a star striker for the newly-crowned Premier League champions as they fight to retain the title next season and put up a strong fight to win the Champions League as well.
