Manchester United are reportedly set to beat Manchester City to the services of highly-rated former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Aliou Traore.

According to French publication L’Equipe, Manchester United have beaten Manchester City in the race to sign one of the most highly-rated young prospects in France. Aliou Traore, who was once part of the PSG academy, is set to leave his current club Sarcelles to join the Red Devils.

The 16-year-old seems set to pen a three-year deal with Manchester United, who would be elated to see the player agree a move to the red half of Manchester, given that the blue half was also heavily linked with interest in the midfield prodigy.

Aliou Traore will most likely slot into the Under-18 setup managed by Kieran McKenna, a squad that possesses talents like Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes, Indy Boonen, Nishan Burkart and many more. A few of them will be promoted to the Under-23 squad, which is likely to free up space in the squad for new arrivals to take up the space.

Traore has made his debut for the French Under-17 side this season as well, under the tutelage of Patrick Gonfalone in March, 2017. The 16-year-old has since gone on to make a total of 7 appearances with 2 goals to boot and has been impressive at the international level.

Manchester United seem to be on a signing spree this summer, especially in terms of additions to the youth squad, with the club already having reportedly secured the services of Arnau Puigmal, another midfielder who is highly-rated back in his home country.

The Red Devils look intent on cultivating the next batch of Class of ’92, a group of academy graduates that took Old Trafford and world football by storm and included names like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Nicky Butt among others.

Nicky Butt is in charge of operations at youth levels and the former Manchester United midfielder seems to have sanctioned a flurry of moves for players with huge future potential, which has seen the Under-18 squad have an interesting mix of British and foreign youngsters.

And, should everything go smoothly, Traore will join the fascinating group of youngsters that is creating the right kind of hype around them, something that has not happened in the last few years.

A flurry of youth players were given a look-in into the first-team squad by Jose Mourinho in the last game of the 2016-17 Premier League campaign and it would be interesting to see how long it takes Traore to make the grade at Old Trafford, should he join the club.
