Juventus and Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Danilo from Real Madrid in the summer.
According to a report in TransferMarketWeb, Danilo is the subject of interest of Juventus and Tottenham. The two clubs are set to go head to head in pursuit of the Real Madrid defender in the summer transfer window.
Danilo joined Real Madrid from Porto in the summer of 2015, arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu with a burgeoning reputation of being one of the most promising young defenders in Europe. However, the player who was hailed as the “next Dani Alves” in his homeland has failed to live up to his billing.
Danilo has been unable to carve out a regular place for himself in the first-team setup at the Bernabeu, having played second fiddle to Dani Carvajal over the past two seasons. As a result, he has managed to start just 40 games in the last two campaigns for Real Madrid, and he has been largely unimpressive at the back.
Having failed to justify the enormous €31.5 million price tag that Real Madrid shelled out for him, Danilo looks set to depart from the Bernabeu this summer. Should that be the case, Juventus and Tottenham are two sides that will be vying for his signature.
Both clubs enjoyed fruitful campaigns in 2016/17, with Juventus doing the league and cup double in Italy while also reaching the UEFA Champions League final. On the other hand, Tottenham finished enjoyed their best ever season in the Premier League, with a massive 86 point-haul seeing them through to a second place finish.
The two clubs, though, are in a precarious situation with their first-choice right-backs, Dani Alves and Kyle Walker, respectively, being linked with summer exits from the two clubs – coincidentally to Manchester City.
While the clubs are unwilling to see their key first-team players leave in the summer, they are resigned to losing them imminently. Juventus and Tottenham have, thus, set their sights on Danilo to replace Alves and Walker, respectively.
And so, the two European biggies are set to indulge in a transfer battle to secure the services of Danilo in the summer transfer window. As far as the player is concerned, the move to either club will provide him the opportunity to secure more regular first-team football.
Juventus, though, are likely to be his source for more silverware and could, thus, hold the aces in pursuit of the Brazilian. It now remains to be seen how things develop in the coming weeks, as Danilo looks set to leave Real Madrid in the summer.
