Arsenal target Emil Forsberg, an RB Leipzig midfielder, is reportedly open to an AC Milan even if they cannot offer Champions League football.

According to a report by The Sun, Emil Forsberg is keen to join AC Milan this summer despite Arsenal being long-time contenders in signing the midfielder.

Forsberg is understood to be interested in joining the Italian club even if they will not play Champions League football, having qualified only for the Europa League. Interestingly, his current club RB Leipzig did qualify for the Champions League by finishing second in the Bundesliga, but Forsberg is seeking a move outside.

The 25-year-old, often called the ‘assist king’, scored eight goals and supplied 19 assists for Leipzig as he starred in a crucial role for their shock Bundesliga title challenge just a year after getting promoted to the top flight. He signed a contract extension for a year back in February which extended his date till 2022.

Arsenal were keen on the midfielder back in April after Forsberg received praise for his note-worthy contributions for the German club, but Wenger will have to act fast since Forsberg now seems to be interested in playing for Milan.

After a disappointing Serie-A season, AC Milan are looking to rebuild their team and Forster is likely to be one of the targets since they do need a set-piece specialist. The Rossoneri’s new Chinese owners are helping to bring in the deals after Milan already secured deals for Mateo Musacchio, Franck Kessie and Ricardo Rodriguez.

Discussions to sign players like Andrea Conti, Lucas Biglia and Keita Balde Diao are ongoing, and now Forsberg will be added to the list. Along with AC Milan and Arsenal, Bayern Munich were also interested in signing the midfielder.

Meanwhile, the Gunners were also linked to a shock move to sign Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez earlier today, so Wenger might be likely to cool his interest in Forsberg since both players are similar in what they can bring to the team.

Compared to James Rodriguez, Forsberg’s numbers are better and he seems to have a higher potential since he is known to be a late bloomer. Also, Forsberg does have the most number of assists in Europe, and was also included in Bundesliga’s official team of the week a lot more times this season than anyone except Arjen Robben.

However, Rodriguez did not receive as much playing time at Real Madrid but if Arsenal do manage to sign both players, the Colombian might have to restrict his regular-team football yet again to make room for Forsberg unless Wenger figures out a way to deploy both of them at the same time.

Additionally, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are still being heavily linked with moves outside the Emirates stadium this summer and if they leave, there will be enough spots to fill up. Wenger also been poised for a move to sign AS Monaco’s super starlet Kylian Mbappe, but it remains to be seen if he will sign Forsberg or Rodriguez.
