Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a move to land Dani Alves from Juventus in the summer.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Chelsea are keen on signing former Barcelona superstar Dani Alves, with Antonio Conte being made aware of the potential availability of the Juventus defender in the summer transfer window.
Alves moved to Juventus from Barcelona on a free transfer last summer after enjoying eight stellar campaigns at Camp Nou and laying his hands on every trophy there is to win at the club level. His influence was so telling for the Catalan club that the right side of their defence ended up being somewhat of a liability in 2016/17.
At Juventus, Alves has become a key figure in Massimiliano Allegri’s first-team plans after a slow start at the club. The Brazilian right-back played 33 matches across all competitions, but it was the Champions League, in particular, where he was instrumental for the Bianconeri with his exploits on both ends of the pitch.
The player also chipped in with six goals and seven assists, and as the campaign wore on, he reaffirmed his status as one of the best full-backs in the world. But, despite being highly consistent for the Italian champions, his future at the Juventus Stadium is mired in uncertainty, as per the report.
And having been made aware of his potential availability this summer, Antonio Conte is ready to jump into the transfer market to swoop for the player. The Chelsea boss employed a 3-4-3 formation at Stamford Bridge this season – a formation that reaped huge dividends as the Blues stormed to the Premier League title while also reaching the FA Cup final.
The Italian deployed Victor Moses as a makeshift right wing-back in the campaign, and the Nigerian proved to be a revelation in what was an alien role for him – a resurgence that also saw him earn a contract renewal with the club in March. And it goes without saying that the player forms a huge part of Conte’s first-team plans.
However, with no competition for Moses at right wing-back, he has set his sights on Alves, whose experience at the top level can be highly valuable for the Blues next season, particularly in the Champions League.
For Alves, a move to Chelsea will provide him an opportunity to start a fresh challenge in his career, and challenge for major trophies in England, having already won every domestic title in Italy and Spain. And with Juventus prepared to sell him in the summer, it remains to be seen if the Blues are able to secure the player’s services.
