Transfer News: Arsenal and Everton interested in Thorgan Hazard

Arsenal and Everton are reportedly both interested in Borussia Monchengladbach superstar Thorgan Hazard, who was previously a part of Chelsea.

French publication Jeunes Footeux are claiming that Borussia Monchengladbach superstar Thorgan Hazard could be set for a return to the Premier League. The former Chelsea midfielder has been drawing interest from the likes of Arsenal and Everton, who are both looking to bring the player back to England in the summer.

Thorgan Hazard is the brother of Eden Hazard – a player who has blossomed into a world-beater and is genuinely considered among the very best in the world at the present moment. And while he hasn’t exactly managed to match his brother up until now, Thorgan himself has done remarkably well since leaving Chelsea.

His arrival at Borussia Monchengladbach was greeted with much promise and the player has delivered so far, with spectacular performances for the new club. This season alone, the player has chalked up 11 goals and 7 assists – decent numbers.

His performance in the group stages of the Champions League, especially against Barcelona, threw him into the limelight, with even the Catalans linked with the player. Chelsea, too, were linked with a move for Thorgan, with a buyback clause speculated – rumours which were put to bed by Gladbach.

The 24-year-old, though, could be coming back to the Premier League, albeit to a different club. Arsenal and Everton are both interested in the player. The present season has been the worst one for Arsenal in a decade’s time, with the club missing out on a top-four finish for the first time in almost an eternity.

Their failure to land Champions League football for next campaign is likely to result in a mass summer exodus and irrespective of the players that depart, the addition of a player of Thorgan’s quality will always be welcome at Emirates.

The 24-year-old can easily take the spot of Mesut Ozil or Alexis Sanchez in case either or both of them leave in the summer. Everton, on the other hand, are likely to be looking at Thorgan as a direct replacement for the seemingly outbound Ross Barkley.

The Evertonian has not yet taken up the offer of a renewal from Everton and Ronald Koeman has already iterated that if the player fails to agree to the extension, he will be sold in the summer; hence, opening up space in the squad for a player like Thorgan Hazard.

Thorgan Hazard is likely to cost the club a reasonable amount, with the report stating that the player could be available for €18 million – a fee neither would hesitate to meet.

While Everton may be able to match Arsenal financially, a possible lack of European football is likely to tip the scales in the latter’s favour and barring a difference in the squad role on offer at either club, it is hard to see Everton trump the Gunners to Thorgan.

Seems like the Belgian is set for a return to London.
