Transfer News: Manchester United and Liverpool in shock summer pursuit of Chelsea superstar Cesc Fabregas

Chelsea superstar Cesc Fabregas is reportedly being tailed by Manchester United and Liverpool as the duo look to strengthen their respective midfields.

Italian publication Calciomercato are claiming that Chelsea superstar Cesc Fabregas is being pursed by their rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. The Spaniard is being linked heavily with a move to Serie A, with AC Milan interested in the player. However, the report states that there is stiff competition in the form of United and Liverpool.

Fabregas established his name at Arsenal before returning to his boyhood club Barcelona and ultimately to Chelsea, where he displayed his magical vision and passing prowess to lead the club to the Premier League title under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho.

However, Antonio Conte’s arrival at Stamford Bridge has seen the midfielder have his playing time restricted to a great extent, with the Italian preferring to play a pivot of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park. Despite his restricted game-time, Fabregas has done remarkably well to contribute to the team’s renaissance.

Chelsea are now one win away from the Premier League title and Fabregas has been one of the catalysts. The 30-year-old has contributed to his team’s cause with 11 assists and 4 goals in the Premier League so far, in just 1137 minutes of playing time – a great return considering the minutes he has been afforded.

However, Fabregas is unlikely to be happy with his situation at Stamford Bridge. Add to that the reports of Conte seeking further additions to the midfield in the summer and there is a great chance of Fabregas falling further down the pecking order at the club.

The aforementioned may force the 30-year-old to look elsewhere. But, while AC Milan have been perenially interested in the player, the midfielder is reported to be in favour of staying in the English Premier League, where he is shockingly on the radar of Manchester United and Liverpool.

The aforementioned duo were recently linked with the player and Calciomercato report that the 30-year-old’s preference to stay in the Premier League has shot up the chances of either team securing a move over other suitors like the Milan clubs.

Liverpool’s need of a player in the mould of Fabregas is not hidden and Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona, which seems to be gathering pace by the day, could drive up the need a million times. Fabregas would provide experience and guile in the middle of the park and his vision could be useful to find the marauding runs of Sadio Mane.

Liverpool currently also lack players with previous experience of being a part of a title-winning squad in a big league and Fabregas could fill that void. Manchester United, on the other hand, could find the perfect replacement to Michael Carrick in the form of the 30-year-old.

Jose Mourinho’s presence at Manchester United could further aid Fabregas in making up his mind along with the presence of international teammates like Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and David De Gea.

The 30-year-old’s contract with Chelsea is set to run till 2019 and the Blues are likely to ask a considerable amount to part with the player, especially to a rival in Manchester United or Liverpool. Manchester United, though, could hold the upper hand over Liverpool, both financially and otherwise.

Fabregas had already upset Arsenal fans by moving to Chelsea and if he does end up moving to Manchester United, the Gooners’ hatred for him could reach a new level, especially after the Robin Van Persie saga.
