Juventus are reportedly set to table a bid of €80 million to sign Marco Verratti from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
Italian publication Calciomercato have reported that Marco Verratti is set to become the subject of an €80 million offer from Juventus in the summer. The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is also being targetted by Barcelona for a move in the summer transfer window.
Verratti has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the world during his time with PSG. Now in his fifth season at the Parc des Princes and the 24-year-old has become one of the most instrumental figures for Les Parisiens.
So much so that PSG’s performances take a definite hit on most occasions when the diminutive Italian is not on the field. He hasn’t missed many games for his side though, racking up 40 appearances across all competitions while also chipping in with two goals and seven assists.
However, despite becoming such a key member for PSG in recent seasons, it is looking likely that Verratti’s future lies away from the French capital. If he does end up moving in the summer, there will be no shortage of suitors lining up for him.
In fact, the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan have all been linked with Verratti in recent months but Barcelona are believed to be leading the race to sign him in the summer. The Catalan club are eager to find a long-term successor to midfield maestro and have been identifying possible options.
They have thus identified Verratti as their top target, seen as a like for like replacement for the Spanish veteran. However, Juventus now plan to steal a march on Barcelona as they look set to offer €80 million to secure his services in the summer.
Juventus are believed to be eager to land a central midfielder in the summer as well, as Sami Khedira’s future beyond this season is uncertain. On top of that, Claudio Marchisio is on the wrong side of 30, and has been pegged back by a spate of injuries that have hampered his campaign.
As a result, Juventus are desperate to land a top quality central midfielder in the summer, and they have identified Verratti as the ideal target. However, there’s a potential stumbling block in the Bianconeri’s pursuit of the Italy interntional, as they share a strained relationship with PSG following their acquisition of Kingsley Coman in 2014.
Verratti’s agent, Donato Di Campli was spotted near Juventus’ hotel in Monaco prior to their semifinal meeting against Leonardo Jardim’s side, but he has denied meeting the club officials. Juventus, though, are ready with their offer and it remains to be seen if a move materialises in the coming weeks.
