Liverpool are targeting Napoli fullback Elseid Hysaj, according to reports

According to Transfer Market Web, Liverpool have made their interest in signing Napoli right back Elseid Hysaj this summer, amid interest from the likes of Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

However, they state that Napoli’s management are reluctant to let Hysaj leave this summer, especially since Napoli’s left back Faouzi Ghoulam is reportedly set to leave the club amid reports that Manchester City are set to table a bid for him this summer.

Hysaj joined Napoli back in 2015 in a €5 million transfer, which made him the second most expensive Albaninan player to be involved in a transfer behind Lorik Cana, who made a €6.75 million move from Galatasaray to Lazio in 2011.

He immediately became an important part of their first team set up and has gained a reputation for being one of the most consistent players in the squad, thanks to his strong passing ability as well as his high concentration levels.

A hard-working player who contributes to Napoli’s attacking play as well as their defensive play, Hysaj has been registering an average of 0.56 key passes, 0.59 chances created, 0.87 interceptions, 1.53 tackles won and 2.48 clearances per 90 minutes in the Italian Serie A, according to Squawka.

Jurgen Klopp has been on the lookout for defensive reinforcements ahead of next season and despite Nathaniel Clyne doing a good job at right back, the Reds manager will be keen on more numbers given that Liverpool might be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Transfer Market Web’s claim that Atletico Madrid are also tracking the player also makes sense, given that their first choice right back Juanfran is already 32 years of age and is getting to a point where he can no longer be considered first choice.

Bayern Munich captain and legend Phillip Lahm announced that he would retire at the end of the season earlier this year so it is no surprise that Bayern are also on the lookout for right backs given that he is their only specialist right back with Rafinha remaining unconvincing in that role.

However, all three clubs would have to pay a significant amount given that Napoli are refusing to sell. Hysaj only extended his contract in October last year and Napoli will be under no pressure to sell him unless the clubs can match their asking price.

Transfer Market Web claim that Napoli will sell for no less than €20 million, which is definitely a fee that all three clubs can afford. However, it is likely that they will increase the price if it comes down to a bidding war which could make things a little more difficult for Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.
