Paris Saint-Germain are set to table an offer of €55 million to Arsenal to land Alexis Sanchez in the summer transfer window.
According to a report in Yahoo Sports, PSG are formulating their first formal offer for Alexis Sanchez, and the French champions are set to offer €55 million to Arsenal to secure the services of the Chilean forward.
Sanchez has been the undisputed talisman for Arsenal this season, playing the majority of the season as the focal point of the side’s attack – a new role for him at the Emirates. But, that has managed to bring out the best of the Chilean’s abilities as he has added more goals to his game.
2016/17 has been a disastrous season for Arsenal to say the least, with several key players turning enduring underwhelming campaigns. However, Sanchez has been one of the few bright sparks for the North London club, scoring 19 goals in addition to providing 10 assists in 31 Premier League games.
Those figures have seen him be among the front runners for players with the most goals and assists in the English top flight. However, despite all his successes, Sanchez has looked like an embattled figure for the last few months.
Sanchez has been in the middle of a contract standoff with Arsenal, refusing to sign a new deal with the club for several months now. Arsenal are even willing to make him the highest paid player in the Premier League, according to some reports, with a £300,000-a-week deal on the table.
However, there have been very little developments surrounding a renewal despite that. As a result, it is believed that Sanchez could be lured away from the Emirates if the right offer is made. And PSG are set to become the first club to test Arsenal’s resolve by tabling an offer of €55 million to the Gunners.
The French champions want to show that they are serious in their pursuit of Sanchez. Indeed, it goes without saying that Sanchez’s addition will bolster Les Parisiens’ attack considerably, as he could combine with the likes of Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler and Edinson Cavani to form a fearsome quartet.
PSG are desperate to sustain a proper contest for the Champions League after repeatedly failing in their attempts to win the competition and the addition of Sanchez could help them match those objectives. However, the Parisian club also know that the transfer value will increase as other clubs lodge their own bids.
Indeed, the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are all believed to be interested in recruiting Sanchez in the summer and they could yet have a say in the matters. It now remains to be seen how things develop in the summer.
But with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2018, it’ll be interesting to see if Sanchez signs a new deal to remain with Arsenal beyond this season.
