Arsenal are reportedly open to negotiating a new deal with Alexis Sanchez and are looking to offer him a mammoth w£300,000-per-week to stay.
According to James Olley of the Evening Standard, Arsenal are looking to make Chilean superstar Alexis Sanchez the highest paid player in the history of the Premier League, by offering him a staggering £300,000/week.
The 28-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of next season and there are still no assurances as to whether or not he will put pen to paper to a new deal. He is understood to be disgruntled by the team’s performances and could look to leave this summer.
He is currently on a £130,000/week which is only £10,000 more than what the club’s highest-earner Mesut Ozil earns. Sanchez believes that his services are far worth more than what he is currently being offered, but it now seems Arsenal are willing to loosen their purse strings.
However, even if they are to offer the said £300,000-per-week contract to the Chilean, it is unsure whether or not he will sign it. He moved to Arsenal with the hope of winning silverware. However, barring two FA Cups, he has not had his hands around any major trophies.
Also, manager Arsene Wenger’s future hangs in jeopardy and Sanchez would want assurances over the Frenchman’s decision sooner rather than later. Wenger claims he has made up his mind, but the media and the fans are unsure as to what the future holds for him.
If Sanchez fails to reach an agreement with Arsenal, there are a number of clubs that will be willing to offer him an escape route out of England. One of the 6 players to be nominated for the Player of the Year, he is undoubtedly one of the best the Premier League has to offer.
Also, fellow London side Chelsea have been closely linked with the Chilean, and could lure him towards moving to Stamford Bridge come the end of the season. They are in pole position to win the league and will also be able to offer Sanchez Champions League football.
Currently reeling in sixth position, this could be the first time in several years that Arsenal miss out on the top four, and fail to secure a Champions League berth. All these factors will be key before Sanchez decides to commit his future to the Gunners.
