Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are set to go head-to-head to sign Hugo Lloris from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

According to an exclusive in the Daily Express, Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris is set be in the middle of a transfer tug-of-war between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain when the transfer window reopens in June.

Lloris has evolved into one of the very best goalkeepers in the world since moving to Tottenham from Lyon in a €10 million deal in 2012. Nearly five highly successful seasons have followed and his stellar performances have seen him become the captain for both club and country.

The last two seasons in particular have been the best that Lloris has enjoyed for both Tottenham and France, with the North London club looking set for back-to-back Top 3 finishes in the Premier League, while Les Bleus reached the final of the European Championships last year.

In fact, Lloris has played an instrumental role in Tottenham being the most frugal defence in the Premier League for the last two seasons, conceding just 54 goals in 64 appearances, while keeping a league-high 25 clean sheets.

Suffice to say, he is regarded as one of the finest players in his position currently, and his consistent displays between the sticks in the last few seasons seem to have put a target on his back. Manchester United and PSG are reportedly in the market for a goalkeeper and have identified Lloris as a top target.

At Manchester United, the future of David De Gea has been mired in uncertainty with Real Madrid prioritising a summer move for the Spaniard. Los Blancos are willing to do everything they can to land De Gea in the summer, but Manchester United remain confident that he will stay.

However, the Red Devils are believed to be laying the contingency plans in order to be not caught aback in case the Spain number is persuaded for a summer move. As a result, Lloris has emerged as the number one target for Manchester United, a natural like for like replacement being a terrific shot stopper.

But, they are set to face some heavy competition from PSG in pursuit of Lloris, as they are eager to sign him as well. The French champions have been long-time admirers of the Frenchman’s talents, and he would represent a definitive upgrade on Alphonse Areola and Kevin Trapp.

The 30-year-old still has more than 5 years left to run on his current deal with Tottenham but that is unlikely to deter either Manchester United or PSG from going gung-ho for him. The two clubs can top the £100,000-a-week pay package that he currently earns with the Lilywhites.

With Lloris keen to contest for major honours having not won anything since moving to England, it now remains to be seen if a move materialises in the summer, with both Manchester United and PSG keen on signing him.
